Playing Dress Up

After our beautiful snow in Kansas last weekend, we have been blanketed with super thick fog and freezing rains for the last couple of days, making travel and picture taking pretty interesting! We were lucky enough yesterday, however, to get out and do a shoot for you guys!

Valentine's Day, and also the Salina Symphony Gala, is getting nearer, leaving me excited and ready for some classy, formal fun! I decided to take advantage of my Rent the Runway unlimited account and rented a classic and fun outfit for this shoot that would be great for a fancy night out and/or black tie affairs, not just this winter, but year round! The gloomy weather made this dress feel even more magical and it was super fun to play dress up with.

This gorgeous Jay Godfrey dress from Rent the Runway is a wonderful option for any formal affair for, seriously, any season. Depending on the styling, it would work for semi-formal as well. It does have a heavier fabric, so it might be a little warm in the summer. Rent the Runway is such a great option for formal events, as you don't have to spend a lot of money on a dress you wouldn't get too much use out of. It costs just $30 to rent this dress for four days. Such a steal! The style of this dress is so pretty, classic, and modest, yet sexy. It is super flattering on a lot of different body styles and made me feel like a princess! However, I would definitely size up one or two sizes (or more if you are more generous in the bust), as the top was very constricting. I have a wider ribcage, but zero bust, so I went with my normal size 4, but I should have worn a 6 to feel more comfortable... and to be able to breathe normally... When you rent, there is an option to get two sizes, and I would recommend you do so for a greater likelihood of finding the perfect fit!

I opted for a classic pair of pumps to go with the classic dress. These Adrienne Vittadini Pumps from DSW were the perfect pair! I loved their double ankle strap and the velvet exterior. It provided a great textural contrast to the silky look of the dress. A closed toe heel is good for colder months (also, you don't need a pedicure) and you can wear sheer nude tights as well, if you need the added warmth. The heel was a perfect height for me (3 1/2") so it provided some lift while still being comfortable!

This amazing Sondra Roberts clutch, also rented from Rent the Runway, was the perfect companion to this dress and the heels. I wanted to add some sparkle, and this ombre glitter bag did just that! It was large enough to hold my phone, lipstick, a key, and some loose bills, just about all I needed for the day! There is a detachable chain strap if you prefer it as a crossbody bag as well. This bag is just $11 to rent for 4 days, or just $73 retail. Super cute style at an affordable price!

I also wore this adorable silver bracelet that was gifted to me by my niece for Christmas. I love its minimalistic and classic look as well! It paired so well with my accessories. I have linked some similar options above!

To finish off the look, I wore this gorgeous statement necklace from Rocksbox that has been in my collection for quite some time. While this exact necklace is unavailable to link, you can probably find it on your Rocksbox account. I have also linked some similar necklaces above!

For my earrings, I wore a pair of simple, diamond studs that Gus gifted me on our first anniversary. They go with anything and add just the right amount of bling, especially when paired with a statement piece such as this necklace.

I finished off the look with a matching shade of red lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics. This red is one of my favorites in my collection, as it is super pigmented and works well with my skin tone!
